Director of Medical Underwriting

As the Director of Underwriting, I oversaw the entire pricing and production of our business. I worked with over 300 brokers from around the country and I had the pleasure of underwriting the medical benefits for companies like Scotts Fertilizer, Clopay Garage Doors, SBARRO Pizza, General Dynamics as well as many large school districts.

My biggest lesson in underwriting is that the underwriter of any carrier is a salesperson. Their goal is to write profitable business. The higher they can sell their rates, the more profit they can potentially make. Most brokers don't understand this and because of this, they try to maneuver around the underwriter providing less information than is required. This is the wrong approach. At UBP, we present our clients in a way that engages the underwriter. Its one way we achieve such low rates.

Prudential Insurance - I started my career with Prudential in the group health claims division where I processed and adjudicated the medical claims for Prudential's largest client, IBM. After only a few short months, my production and quality were so high that they asked me to assist in training new supervisors on how to process claims in a quick and effective way so they could train their staff to produce better numbers. One session led to another and eventually I was asked to train a class of new employees. I would go on to train several hundred employees on how to process medical claims quickly and effectively. For my efforts, I earned a monetary award and certificate which had never been given out before. 

In addition to my regular work, I had the honor of serving as the President of the Prudential Recreation Association by being voted in by the majority of over 1,000 employees in three offices. This was a non-paying position that was in charge of our all of our recreational activities developed to provide extra benefits and team building for our employees. Such as our annual holiday party, company sponsored sport teams, and our company picnic in the summer. We also supported local charities like Toys For Tots, Thanksgiving Dinners, Pictures With Santa and many others. It was a great experience and something I enjoyed immensely.

Corporate Claims Trainer

​Since 1999, I have worked in the brokering and consulting end of the employee benefits business. In 1999, I joined the largest benefits firm in the northeast. We had 43 total sales people and I promised the owner that if he hired me, I would be his #1 Producer. I am very proud to say that not only did I become the #1 New Business Producer for this company, I tripled the new business production of every single one of my fellow producers. 42 of them to be exact. I worked very hard and its something I am very proud of but I am more proud of the amount of money I saved my clients. Literally hundreds of thousands of dollars in one year!

Work experience

After years of being a top producer for some of the largest firms in the country, I started my own company with one goal in mind... Put the client's needs before ours. I am determined to build a different organization. One where clients say... "why didn't our broker show us that?". We hear it so much its almost a second motto of ours. It's what we shoot for. To show our clients something that haven't seen before. To always stay ahead of the curve.
